BADIM 11: Favourite Inspirational Quotes!

Hello Sweet Peas!

Welcome to day 11 of Blog a Day in May!

I’ve recently been through a creative block. I’ve been unmotivated and feeling a little blue. I’m feeling better now though! But one of the best things I’ve found to motivate myself is to read inspirational quotes!

Today I am going to share with you my top 10 favourite motivational quotes. Some are from films, some are from plays. Some are meant to be inspirational, others just speak to me in some way.  Hopefully, they will inspire you too!

1. ‘If it was easy, everybody would do it!’ – Eric Thomas.

I had this quote on my door when I was at Uni. Whenever I was sat at my desk, crying because it was hard and I didn’t think I could do it, I would look behind me and remind myself that yes, its hard but it will be worth it! And it was and I succeeded because I didn’t give up!

2. ‘” But what if I fall?” “Oh my Darling, what if you fly?”‘ – Peter Pan.

I have a chronic case of self-doubt. I wish I could the person that thinks they can do everything and throws themselves into a situation without a second thought. But I’m not. I have to over analyse and wonder if I’m good enough. Generally, I come to the conclusion that I’m not and so I shouldn’t even try because I will only fail. But, that’s no way to live. This quote reminds me that you need to take a chance because one decision might be all it takes to set off a series of events that lead to the best decision of your life.

3. ‘Always. Always, always believe in yourself. Because if you don’t then who will, Sweetie?’ – Marilyn Monroe.

I love Marilyn Monroe! When I first started suffering from PCOS I hated what my body looked like and the things I had to go through on a daily basis. But then I learnt that Monroe suffered from Endometriosis, (learn more about the condition here), and a lot of her symptoms were similar to mine; the weight gain, the hair growth. She made me feel beautiful again and this quote feels like she is speaking to me. Sounds weird but it makes me feel better!

4. ‘Why do you write like you’re running out of time?’ – Hamilton.

This one isn’t so much inspirational, but it is one of my favourite quotes to get me motivated to write (because that’s my main purpose in life! To write!). I have a weird phobia of passing time and I honestly do feel like I’m always running out of time to do things in my life. This quote gives me a kick up the butt to get writing. I can’t explain it, but I can literally listen to the song ‘Non-Stop’…well non-stop, just to hear this line. I managed to write over 22,000 words last month so I guess its working! (Grammarly sends me a word count report, I don’t count the words as I go FYI!)

5. ‘Though she be little, she be fierce.’ – Shakespeare.

I’m 5 foot 3. Not a particularly intimidating height. But what I lack in height I make up for in sass! A lot of people tell me (when they know me a little better) that I look small and innocent when they first meet me…then I open my mouth and I scare them because I literally say whatever I’m thinking and I won’t let anyone walk over me. My mum went to Stratford Upon Avon in the UK (the place Shakespeare was born) and brought me back a T-shirt with this quote on. Whenever I feel intimidated by something or someone, I think about this quote and the sass comes out!

6. ‘No one can make you feel inferior without your consent.’ -The Princess Diaries.

OMG, this quote! Good old Joe! Around the time this movie came out I was in High School and I hadn’t found my Sassy nature yet. I was teased for every little thing and I took it all to heart. I think this was probably the first movie quote to really hit a nerve. I thought about it a lot after I saw the Princess Diaries. The comments from the girls in my class (who my friend and I called the Plastics, good old Mean Girls!), didn’t seem to bother me as much when I decided I didn’t care about their opinion. Pretty sure we can blame Joe for my Sassiness!

7. ‘The only thing standing between you and your goal is the bull shit story you keep telling yourself as to why you can’t achieve it!’ – The Wolf of Wall Street.

This is a relatively new one. Last week in fact. When I graduated from Uni last year I went straight into a decent enough job, but a job that had nothing to do with my degree and would not challenge me. Why? I honestly don’t know! I kept telling myself it was because I needed a rest, I needed to save money, I needed to build my portfolio. But I heard this quote while watching the wolf of wall street and I thought…damn….that’s what I’m doing. Happy to say I’ve started actively working towards my goals again! Good old Leo!

8. ‘It ain’t about how hard you can hit. It’s about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward.’ – Rocky Balboa.

My mother is obsessed with this movie, even our tortoise is called Rocky (the other is called Rambo ffs). She quotes this to me quite a lot whenever I’m annoyed at something that’s happened or just life in general. When I was a kid it annoyed me because I didn’t know what the heck she was talking about, I wasn’t allowed to hit the other kids! But now that I am an adult and have had life hit me in the face on multiple occasions, I can appreciate how bloody good this quote really is.

9. ‘Life is not a spectators sport. If all you’re going to do is watch, you’re going to watch your life go by without you.’ – The Hunchback of Notre Dame.

This is my favourite Disney movie. So many lessons were learnt watching this as a kid. Like some of the other quotes in this list, this one is a reminder that I need to participate in my own life, take chances and get out of my comfort zone. If you struggle with anxiety, watch a few Disney movies, it’s amazing how deep they are when you really look. (Don’t get me started on Lilo and Stitch!).

10. ‘No matter what people tell you. Words and ideas can change the world.’ – Robin Williams.

This man is my hero. I cried myself to sleep the night I heard he had passed away. As a kid, his quote from Mrs Doubtfire got me through so many times. ‘You’re going to be alright Poppet.’ But now I’m older and I’m out in the world trying to make it as a writer, it’s this quote that speaks me most. This planet is going a little crazy at the moment, I think it needs some new words and some new ideas to change it for the better.
