Happy Saturday Sweetpeas!
How are we almost at the end of autumn?! Where has the year gone! A lot has changed in the last year, one of these changes has been my hair. Earlier in the spring I took the plunge and had my hair chopped. Good decision really, since my hair was a dead, dry birds nest hanging on my head.
My hair is a lot healthier these days and now that winter is coming I am determined to keep it that way! I have been picking and choosing the products I use on my hair, which is something I never used to do (It used to be a case of whatever was on sale). Since my hair is doing pretty well, despite the dropping temperatures I decided I would share my fall hair care routine with you.
Washing my hair – I wash my hair 2-3 times a week, depending on whether or not I’ve got dance class. (I find short hair and sweat do not go well together). I don’t like to wash my hair every night because it strips your hair of vital oils that it needs to remain healthy. When I do wash my hair I use L’Oreal Elvive Colour Protect which is great for maintaining my coloured hair. Due to my PCOS, the front of my hair is fragile and prone to falling out, so when I was my hair I try to be as gentle as possible. Rather than scrubbing at the suds, I stand under the water and allow the suds to wash away with the water.
Drying – After washing my hair I use Morrocan oil. I apply a liberal amount to my wet hair before gently brushing through it with a detangling comb. The teeth on this comb are further apart, meaning there is less tension on your wet hair. If possible avoid brushing your hair with a brush or fine-toothed comb when wet. Hair is at its weakest when wet. If I’m not going anywhere I tend to let me hair air dry. But if I have to rush I blowdry my hair on the coolest setting, the oil I applied will also work as a heat protector on low heat. Once my hair is dry, I apply some of L’Oreal’s Extraordinary oil to really nourish the ends of my hair.
Heat – I generally wash my hair at night so I won’t style it until the next morning. Recently, I’ve really been loving curling my hair because it’s quick and easy. I literally curl a few pieces of hair in 3 or 4 layers on each side of my head without touching the back of my hair (since it sticks up in a funky way anyway). To protect my hair from the curling wand, I first run a blob of V05 Heat Protect Serum. What I sometimes do, if I know I’m going to have a long day if to spray my hair with Jour d’ automne Sugar Texturising Spray, it makes the curls hold longer than they would normally, and the spray smells lush.
Pampering – Once a week I like to give me hair a little TLC and apply a hair mask. My current favourite hair mask is the Valquer Ice Hair Mask. It is such a strange sensation, but I love it! It feels starts to make your head feel cold and tingly which intensifies while you wash it off and it leaves you feeling really fresh and your hair really soft! I find that giving my hair that extra bit of care periodically has really helped keep it hydrated and nourished as the weather is becoming colder and harsher.
So those are the products I am currently using to care for my hair as the winter months are drawing closer. Big thank you to eSalon for providing the graphics for this post. Check out their site here.
